I named my piece "Between the Lines" to encourage the viewer to look beyond the culture that covers the true identity of a woman. My piece depicts women of other cultures beyond what they wear and represent. The young woman in my piece is trying to tell her story only through her eyes because she is covered. I want people to look at the girl and realize that even though she is concealed behind the hijab she is wearing, she still has her own story, her own experiences, and her own life that she is representing through the only part of her body you can see...her eyes. Although I am Hindu, I am still tolerant of people's race, religion, nationality, and life choices. I put on the hijab to place in the role of another woman from another religion and hopes of better understanding other people's viewpoint.
