Disguise Within Photo:
In the first picture the subject matter is me cover in a scarf. I wrapped the scarf around my face so that most of my face is covered except the eyes. Even though my face is covered, my eyes tell a lot. Depending on the viewer, you could say that the eyes are almost giving of a smirking look, or that the person in the picture is in some sort of deep thought. The eyes leaves the viewer wondering what the girl is thinking or staring at. The photograph was taken fairly close up. By doing that, I feel I capture the details of the eyes. Also there is not much going on in the picture, but at the same time the covering of the face and the piercing eyes put in a lot to the photograph. This photograph kind of inspired by Shirin Neshat. She photographs women in hijabs. But her photographs tell a whole different story.
Disguise through digitally modifying your photo:
For my second piece, I layered two pictures together. The picture of me was also in color. So i changed it into black and white then put the two photographs together. I worked to opacity to make sure both layers were equally shown. The second layer in was a tree branch. I tried connecting human and nature in this piece. I edited the picture so only the tree branches and leaves appear from that layer while everything else is from the layer of the face. I didn't get inspiration from any artist.
